Remove nicotine - which home remedies can help removing nicotine stains
Nicotine can be deposited on hands, smooth surfaces such as on different objects and leave uncomfortable spots and smells. Many then use the expensive nicotine cleaner, which they buy especially. Most of the time, however, simple home remedies could do a good job.
Nicotine finger properly clean
If - mostly by the frequent consumption of cigarettes - yellowish deposits have formed on the hands, there are the following simple options on how to remove them again:
- Soap and water: to remove most of the nicotine, wash your hands thoroughly with alkaline core soap and warm water.
- Citric acid: Lemon juice can help remove nicotine stains and neutralize the smell. Grate your hands with fresh lemon juice and then rinse them off with water.
- Baking powder paste: mix baking soda with some water to a paste and rub your hands insert. This helps to remove nicotine stains and peels the skin.
- Nail polish remover: This not only removes nail polish, but can also remedy the situation in the case of nicotine stains on the hands. Simply put a little on a cotton pad and treat the affected area with it.
Since the mentioned household remedies could irritate the skin, use soothing hand cream afterwards. And especially in the case of nail polish remover, you should counteract the drying out of your skin - the acetone or ethylacetate contained therein favors this - with moisturizing skin cream.
Remove nicotine from smooth surfaces
In order to be able to remove nicotine stains on surfaces made of plastic, tiles or glass, you do not have to buy expensive nicotine cleaners. Rather, the following household remidiescan be very effective - and very likely you still have one of them at home:
- Vinegar solution: mix white vinegar and water in a ratio of 1: 1. Then apply the solution to the affected surface and wipe it off with a clean towel. Vinegar helps to remove nicotine stains and neutralizes smells.
- Wound alcohol or surgical spirit: Many people already have 70 percent alcohol or surgical spirit from the pharmacy at home. Both variants are considered as a strong solvent that can effectively remove nicotine. Apply the respective liquid on a towel and wipe the surface with it.
- Cleaning agents from the household: Use an all-purpose cleaning agent or glass cleaner for art stone/natural stone tiles, metal, glass or plastic surfaces. After a short time, nicotine residues can be easily removed. In any case, it is advisable to check the manufacturer's information before using such cleaning agents. If appointed surface treatments are expressly excluded there, these should not be cleaned with these medium.
Remove nicotine stains from textiles
Textiles, which you are able to put into the washing machine, can be washed with a universal detergent. However, you should do without adding vinegar during the wash - as recommended in various internet forums. Added vinegar could damage the seals of your washing machine.
It would be better to soak the textiles in a suitable container with warm water and added white vinegar for 15-20 minutes. Before you put it in the washing machine, rinse it out with clean, warm water. You can also try such a pretreatment of the textiles with gall soap.
Remove nicotine stains from upholstered furniture - conventional upholstery cleaning products are best suited for this. However, if you do not have them in stock, a mixture of white vinegar and water can be remedied.
Mixed in a ratio of 1: 1, put the liquid sparingly on a cleaning cloth and then treat the affected areas. Alternatively, you can try gall soap here. In the case of large-scale nicotine stains, cleaning with the spray extraction device is recommended.
Good to know: nicotine pouches do not discolor the teeth
Yellowish to brown discoloration on the teeth can result in the consumption of tobacco products - whether, for example, when smoking or using chewing, oral tobacco. Appropriate oral hygiene becomes essential here to prevent such undesirable effects.
Nicotine bags are considered as cigarettes alternative and have a decisive advantage here: they do not discolore the teeth.
